AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One person is dead after an attempted rescue near Pennybacker Bridge, the Austin-Travis County EMS said on social media Friday. Around 8:20 p.m., ATCEMS medics said it responded to a wilderness rescue at the Pennybacker Bridge overlook at 5200 North Capital of Texas Highway northbound. The Austin Fire Department were first to arrive and helped to move the adult person from the trail. About halfway down, medics said the person went into cardiac arrest. After "extensive resuscitative efforts in an austere environment," medics pronounced the person dead. No other details were released Friday.
