Actor and Comedian Hiram Kasten Dies at 71

Hiram Kasten, who passed away at the age of 71. Kasten was known for his versatile talent and ability to bring laughter to audiences across the globe.

While Kasten's "health had taken a downturn and he no longer performed or actively pursued his career" beginning in 2017, "he only began to share the terminality of it all with his friends in the last six months," the post read.

Kasten was 71 when he passed away in Batavia, outside of Buffalo, according to a statement posted on his Facebook page.

"Hiram Kasten loved show business and lived his dream of being in show business," the family said in a statement announcing his death.

Kasten's cause of death was not disclosed but the family said he'd been "fighting through a multitude of illnesses" in the past seven years, "including prostate cancer."

In the past six months, Kasten had been been telling friends he was terminally ill.

The late standup is survived by his wife and their daughter Millicent Jade Kastenbaum. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kevin John Kisiel, as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kasten was said to have died in her arms of his wife, Diana Kisiel Kastenbaum, the day after their 38th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by a daughter, Millicent Jade Kastenbaum, a Manhattan district attorney.

As an actor, Kasten brought a depth and complexity to his characters that resonated with viewers on a profound level. Whether he was portraying a lovable goofball or a troubled soul, Kasten's authenticity shone through in every role he took on.
