NILES — Michael Monteforte Sr., 89, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by those he loved most. He was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Niles, the son of Anthony and Mary Portanova Monteforte. He was proud of his Italian immigrant roots and his family. And if you knew him, you knew he never met a stranger. Mike was a 1952 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and held jobs with the National Gypsum Company, Metropolitan Life, the U.S. Post Office and Niles Suburban News, among others, before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Youngstown State University.
