In a thrilling matchup between two Eastern Conference powerhouses, the Boston Celtics emerged victorious over the Milwaukee Bucks with a final score of 122-119. The game was a showcase of high-level basketball as both teams battled fiercely until the very end.
The Celtics were led by their dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who combined for 63 points to propel their team to victory. Tatum's clutch shooting down the stretch proved to be the difference-maker, as he knocked down key shots in crucial moments.
Antetokounmpo was not with the team at shootaround Wednesday morning and did not travel to Boston. He will rejoin the team back in Milwaukee on Thursday, where the Bucks are playing the second game of a back-to-back against the Brooklyn Nets.
Irked by the insult to his teammate, Payton Pritchard erupted for 10 points in the quarter, matching the entire Bucks output and helping the Celtics open a big lead before holding on for a 122-119 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
“It kind of lit a fire under me,” said the 6-foot-1 Pritchard, who had 19 points and six rebounds — most of it in the second quarter, when Boston turned a five-point lead into an 18-point cushion. “He’s trying to clown one of our teammates. So I definitely took it a little personally.”
Jaylen Brown right ankle sprain), Sam Hauser (left ankle sprain), and former Bucks guard Jrue Holiday (right AC Joint sprain) all listed as questionable for the game. Hauser missed Monday night's blowout win over the Pistons after suffering his ankle injury Sunday night in his 30-point outburst against the Wizards.
NBA (and the first seed in the Eastern Conference) with a 54-14 record in 68 games.
They have gone 8-2 over their last ten games and are also in the middle of a six-game winning streak.
It seemed like that might be enough of a cushion to propel the C's to the finish line, especially with Antetokounmpo inactive. But after another Lillard three and White missing a layup, Portis finishing through contact gave him a chance to bring the Bucks within one with 32 seconds remaining.
However, he couldn't capitalize. At the other end, Brown got his redemption, converting on both free throws in his latest chance to step to the line in a pressure situation.
