Trump and co-defendants seeking to appeal Fulton County DA Fani Willis disqualification decision

In a stunning turn of events, former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants are seeking to appeal the disqualification decision of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The controversial ruling, which barred Willis from prosecuting the high-profile case against Trump and others, has sparked outrage and disbelief among legal experts and the public alike.

The move to appeal comes as no surprise, given the gravity of the charges facing Trump and his associates. The case, which alleges election interference and other criminal activities, has been closely watched by millions around the world. With so much at stake, it is imperative that justice be served in a fair and impartial manner.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said Friday morning that Willis would be allowed to stay on the racketeering case she brought against Trump if Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she appointed to the case, resigned. Wade resigned that afternoon.

Attorneys for Trump and the co-defendants had accused both Willis and Wade of misconduct and alleged Willis was financially benefiting from a romantic relationship she'd had with Wade after the two took vacations together while working on the case. McAfee found no conflict of interest but said either Willis and her office or Wade had to step aside because of the "appearance of impropriety."

Sadow noted that McAfee’s ruling on Friday “found that Willis’ actions created an appearance of impropriety and an ‘odor of mendacity’ that lingers in this case, but it nonetheless refused to dismiss the case or disqualify her.”

McAfee ruled that Willis can continue to prosecute Trump and his co-defendants but forced the resignation of her top prosecutor on the case, Nathan Wade. McAfee concluded that if Willis stayed, Wade had to step down in order to dispel the “cloud of impropriety” created by their romantic relationship.

Wade, who has testified that his romantic relationship with Willis is over, resigned after the ruling was issued on Friday.

After more than two days of testimony by Willis, Wade, former friends of Willis and Wade, and Willis' father, Judge McAfee ruled on March 15 that although there did not appear to be an actual conflict of interest, either Willis would need to recuse herself and her entire team from the case, or Wade would need to step aside. Later that day, Wade submitted his resignation.
