(La Porte County, IN) – A travel advisory is still out for La Porte County because of freezing rain overnight creating hazardous travel conditions. Motorists on state highways, for example, were encountering a lot of slushy spots early this morning, causing drivers to travel 35 to 45 miles per hour maybe a little faster in spots on major thoroughfares. Salt laid down yesterday in advance of the storm appears to be working well in keeping a lot of ice from forming. La Porte Street Department Director Jeff Batchelor said there’s still patches of ice, though, in spots on traveling surfaces. “It’s mostly slushy but there are black ice spots that you just don’t see when you’re driving,”
