The Texas State vs. Rice football game marked the end of a challenging season for the Texas State team, but it concluded on a high note with their first victory of the year, defeating Rice 45-21.  Ismail Mahdi powers the run game with 1,209 yards and 10 touchdowns while Joey Hobert caught 71 passes for 847 yards and eight scores. Kole Wilson also caught eight TD passes. The Texas State vs. Rice University football matchup in the 2023 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN at 4:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Dec. 26. ESPN broadcasters for the game are scheduled to be Dave Neal (play-by-play), Aaron Murray (analyst), and Morgan Uber (sideline reporter). 
In addition to the havoc caused by the defense and special teams, Texas State received tremendous production from the running backs. All-Sun Belt selection Ismail Mahdi added to his 1,200-yard season, rushing for 122 yards to spearhead the victory. His second fiddle Jahmyl Jeter reveled in the spotlight as well, rushing for 36 yards and three touchdowns in the Bobcats’ historic win.
TJ Finley lobbed a cross-field lateral to the 6’5”, 320 pound lineman who strolled into the end zone for a 3-yard score.
Texas State's triumph over Rice marked an important milestone for both the team and its supporters.
