NBA Christmas Day games have always been a highlight of the basketball season, and the matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns in 2023 promises to be an exciting one. Both teams have been making waves in recent years, with young talent and veteran leadership propelling them to success.
The Mavericks, led by their superstar Luka Dončić, have become a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference. Dončić's exceptional playmaking abilities combined with his scoring prowess make him a nightmare for any defense. Alongside him, Kristaps Porziņģis provides a formidable inside presence that can stretch the floor with his shooting.
Luka Doncic scored 50 points to eclipse 10,000 for his career and had 15 assists, lifting the Dallas Mavericks to a 128-114 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.
“He’s one of the best in the world,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “As I’ve always said, we can’t take him for granted. When he’s feeling it, you’re just trying to get him the ball as much as possible.”
They sure did against the Suns and Doncic made them pay for it.
The NBA's Christmas quintuple-header ended with the Dallas Mavericks beating down the Phoenix Suns, taking a short break, then beating them down again.
Denver Nuggets topped the Golden State Warriors, the Boston Celtics steamrolled the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat held off the Philadelphia 76ers.
There wasn't a classic game like some previous Christmases, but the Celtics still managed to make a statement as the top team in the NBA. And it's always fun to watch Doncic have one of those games where he drops haymaker after haymaker.
Booker finished with 20 points and Durant added 16 points and six turnovers.
Phoenix was outscored 37-22 and committed six turnovers in the fourth quarter of the loss, falling to 14-15 on the season.
The Suns visit the Rockets on Wednesday. Next time Phoenix gets a crack at Dallas will be Jan. 24 on the road.
