Raiders beat Chiefs at Christmas Day (20-14)

On a joyous Christmas day, the Oakland Raiders triumphed over their long-standing rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, with a resounding 20-14 victory. The clash between these two teams has always been fierce and intense, and this game was no exception.

From the very beginning, it was evident that both teams were determined to secure the win. The Raiders' offense displayed exceptional skill and coordination, led by their star quarterback Derek Carr. His precise passes and strategic decision-making kept the Chiefs' defense on their toes throughout the game. Additionally, running back Josh Jacobs showcased his talent by consistently gaining crucial yards and scoring a touchdown that ultimately sealed their victory

The Chiefs don't have to achieve a lot in order to find improvement in next week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. They finished the first quarter against the Raiders with minus-18 yards, the worst for any NFL team since 2011.

Both of the Raiders' touchdown came on defense, one on a fumble after a botched handoff between Mahomes and Isiah Pacheco and the other an interception thrown by Mahomes.

Raiders (7-8) became the first NFL team since 2000 to win without completing a pass after the first quarter, and only the fifth team to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium without scoring an offensive touchdown.

“Obviously this was a huge game. It’s a rivalry game,” O’Connell said. “We play them twice a year, every year, so to come into Arrowhead Stadium and win a game like this, it’s pretty awesome. It’s pretty special for our guys.”

The Raiders were able to run the ball on the Chiefs' defense on the ensuing drive, though, and held on for the upset.

Antonio Pierce and Mahomes both fought tears once time ran out. Pierce, in a postgame interview, reflected on the Raiders' resilience through a turbulent season. The team is now 4-3 under his leadership after previous head coach Josh McDaniels was fired midseason.

Mahomes was also emotional on the sidelines. Heading into the contest, he was 17-0 in AFC West matchups after Nov. 1 since 2019. While that's a pretty niche stat, it's representative of a dominant run that's ending for the Chiefs this season.
