Chicago Bears have bought pass rush aid ahead of the NFL's trade deadline today.
The Bears and Washington Commanders are in agreement on a trade that sends edge rusher Montez Sweat to Chicago in exchange for a second-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, per sources informed of the swap. The Bears have since announced the trade.
Sweat, 27, is in the last year of his contract, and the Commanders are opting for a draft pick now rather than the compensatory selection they might receive if Sweat signed elsewhere as a free agent next year.

Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens. The Bears have an NFL-low 10 sacks this season and 46 pressures, which ranks 30th.
Sweat, 27, has started all 67 games he's appeared in over five seasons with Washington, registering 197 tackles, 35.5 sacks, 47 tackles-for-loss, one interception that he returned 15 yards for a touchdown and nine forced fumbles.
The 6-6, 262-pounder was selected by the Commanders with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2019 draft out of Mississippi State. He started all 16 games in each of his first two seasons, recording 50 tackles and 7.0 sacks in 2019 and 45 tackles and 9.0 sacks in 2020.

There is also room to discuss if the return compensation was enough for the players traded away. Sweat for a second seems fair for all parties. Young for a comp pick third will lead to questions, but remember, while talent isn't a question, health and durability are for the former No. 2 overall pick.
