PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s tennis team put together a strong showing on the first day of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, going 8-2 in singles play and winning three of five doubles matches. Five Bison won their singles matches in straight sets. Abby Platt, Whitney King, Tyne Miller, Kate Novak and Tori Allen all defeated their opponents from Duquesne and Saint Francis in two sets. Anna Lajos, Jaycie Mair and Mirra Manolov each won their opening sets but had to battle back to tiebreak victories after dropping their second. Novak and Allen were especially impressive with 6-1, 6-0 wins. King and Platt, who routinely play at Bucknell’s number one position, won 6-4 in doubles play
