News by : (PRESSBEE) -

Chelsea got life under Mauricio Pochettino officially under way as the new Blues boss picked up a 5-0 preseason over Welsh darlings Wrexham at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Blues were boosted by a pair of first-half goals by Ian Maatsen, who struck first in the third minute, and again three minutes before halftime.

Wrexham pushed hard for a goal against Premier League opposition, but Connor Gallagher added a cheap third goal with nine minutes remaining to put the game away. Christopher Nkunku added a fourth with seconds remaining in regulation, and then Ben Chilwell got a fifth with the final kick of the game.

In front of over 50,000 fans on the campus of UNC, Wrexham, newly promoted to League Two for this season under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, pushed hard and did not bunker in against a top quality. They had chances, but failed to produce the necessary finish to grab a consolation goal.

his match will be a good opportunity for Chelsea to test their new signings, including Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. It will also be a chance for the Blues to get some minutes under their belts before the start of the Premier League season.
