Cam Reddish to Lakers two-Year Contract In Free Agency

News by : (PRESSBEE) -

Lakers are signing free agent forward Cam Reddish to a two-year contract, per Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times and Shams Charania of The Athletic

ESPN that the second year of the agreement will be a player option. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reveals  that the contract will be a minimum deal.

The athletic 6’8″ small forward is already pretty well-traveled as he embarks on just his fifth NBA season in 2023/24. The Hawks selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Duke. He has since suited up, briefly, for the Knicks and Trail Blazers.

Splitting his 2022/23 season between New York and Portland, he averaged 9.7 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 1.4 APG and 1.0 APG in 40 contests.

In 173 games across four NBA seasons, Reddish has averaged 10.3 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 32.2% from 3-point range. He got quality minutes after being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers at the deadline last year and averaged 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20 games.

With his size at 6’8″, if Reddish could develop a more consistent 3-point shot then he could end up being one of the steals of the offseason.

Lakers still have a lot more moves to make, landing Reddish for a minimum deal is good business similar to their signing of another former lottery pick in Malik Monk two offseasons ago. Reddish joins a Los Angeles free agent group that includes Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince, giving them a clearer picture of the roster heading into the 2023-24 season.

Five months later, that deal paid off for both parties, the Lakers signing Hachimura to a three-year deal, ensuring that one piece of their “young core” would spend the next chunk of his prime in Los Angeles. And for Hachimura? It meant $51 million guaranteed — the price tag he earned for his postseason play when he helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference finals.

The move was part of a busy first handful of hours for the Lakers in free agency, the team also adding NBA Finals starter Gabe Vincent, veteran Taurean Prince and former lottery pick Cam Reddish
