Of course, the City isn’t in the business of building new housing itself, but the city council has adopted policies to promote the development of new housing, mostly by making it easy for developers to complete projects here. In fact, the City has been so proactive in incentivizing new housing—and seeing those efforts come to fruition—that the State awarded Ukiah a special recognition. We are one of only 11 jurisdictions in the entire State to receive a “Prohousing” designation. This is an outstanding achievement considering that there are 482 cities and 58 counties in California.
