To the Editor: April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. The first symptoms were subtle but slowly became more present. An ever so slight tremor in my left hand, but only in the morning when I stretched. Then my handwriting started to shrink, writing became a struggle, I couldn’t wiggle my toes, and my foot started to drag. The left side of my body felt slightly paralyzed, and I began to worry maybe I had a mild stroke. A Google search suggested Parkinson’s disease, but I was only thirty-eight—no way, I said to myself. According to the World Health Organization, “the prevalence of PD has doubled in the past 25 years.” In 2013 I was diagnosed, and my mother and mother-in-law were diagnosed in 202
