Last winter, the Cubs traded a haul for star outfielder Kyle Tucker. And for a while, there was mounting pressure from fans to keep him in Chicago long term. Those calls increased dramatically when Tucker opened up the first three months of the season swinging it like a legitimate MVP candi .291/.395/.537 (157 wRC+) with 17 HRs and 20 stolen bases. But then a lot changed.
A couple of injuries, a lot of missed time, an aloof personality, a quiet second half, and virtually no big moments upon which to hang his hat reduced the noise to a minimum. And by the time he struck out in the pivotal sixth inning of Game 5 of the NLDS, their relationship felt fully over. Now, it officially is.
According to Jeff Passan, Kyle Tucker is signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers of all teams, because of course he is.

Because Tucker received and declined the Cubs’ qualifying offer before signing with the Dodgers, the Cubs will receive an extra pick in the 2026 MLB Draft after the completion of Competitive Balance Round B (i.e., sometime after the second round).
We’ll have more once the terms of the deal are out, but ifor now, let’s just say: I’m not that surprised.
In Los Angeles, with its vast number of stars, including the biggest in the world (Shohei Ohtani), Tucker can blend into the background, where he sure seems to prefer. No judgements, but that’ll be a lot easier on the Dodgers than it would have in New York.
Speaking of the Mets, their fans were absolutely (mistakenly) TROLLED tonight by owner Steve Cohen, who tweeted this right when EVERYONE had been expecting some Kyle Tucker news.
Let me know when you see smoke
— Steven Cohen (@StevenACohen2) January 15, 2026The Mets, of course, were the heavy recent rumor, with word of a short-term, but $50M AAV offer on the table. Likewise, the Blue Jays were thought to be the only team willing to go with length (as in, 10+ years). Instead, it’s the Dodgers, whose deal I presume will carry heavy deferrals.
