CHARLOTTE, N.Y. — A troubled nursing home in Charlotte is set to change hands, News10NBC has learned. Waterview Heights, currently owned by the Grand Healthcare System, will soon be operated by Advanced Healthcare.
The New York State Health Department appointed a manager to oversee Waterview Heights last fall after more than a dozen News10NBC investigations uncovered suspected abuse and neglect. State health inspections revealed dangerous understaffing, residents left in feces for hours, and staff failing to administer medications.
News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry, who has led the investigations, confirmed the change in ownership. “Sources close to Waterview tell me it’s Advanced Healthcare,” Dewberry said. “The company’s website indicates it currently has 19 nursing homes across the country and it now will inherit a home with a long history of problems.”
Inspection records from Waterview Heights detail stories of abuse and neglect described as horrific. Dewberry confirmed through a source that Advanced Healthcare will begin operating Waterview in just weeks. A second manager has also joined Waterview and will report directly to the Department of Health.
Jeffrey Yeh, a spokesman for Waterview, assured that the current staff of nurses and nursing assistants will not lose their jobs when the new company takes over next month. “The company will demand excellence,” Yeh added.
