Gemma Hayter is ready to rock the Alexandra Palace.
Hayter booked her spot at the World Darts Championship, the sport’s marquee event, thanks to a run to the final of Event 32 in the Women’s Series over the weekend.
Although she was whitewashed by Beau Greaves at the last hurdle, Hayter’s impressive run of results earned her a fifth-place finish on the Order of Merit.
But, more importantly, it meant she had secured a golden ticket as one of the 128 players set to compete in the season-ending event at the iconic Ally Pally.
It capped off a remarkable career turnaround for the 32-year-old given she only returned to the oche at the start of 2024 following an 18-month hiatus, which she took as she didn’t believe there were enough opportunities for women in darts.

But witnessing Luke Humphries’ triumph at the 2024 World Darts Championship ‘inspired’ her to come back and it’s proved to be a masterstroke of a decision.
Speaking to Darts World, Hayter conceded her monumental achievement ‘hasn’t sunken in yet’.
“I didn’t get back home from Wigan until 11pm last night, and I was up for work at 5am so I haven’t had a chance to process it all yet,” Hayter said.
“It’s huge for me. I only started playing again last January, so it’s been a real rollercoaster.
“It’s the biggest achievement I’ve had. It’s massive.”
Which other women qualified for darts’ premier event?
Hayter is one of five women set to compete at this year’s World Darts Championship.
Joining the 32-year-old at the Ally Pally is Greaves, Lisa Ashton, Fallon Sherrock and Noa-Lynn van Leuven.
Hayter’s last ranked PDC title came in 2024 at a Women’s Series event in WiganGettyGreaves’ participation in the tournament was confirmed last Thursday having finished second on the PDC’s Development Tour.
It will be the 21-year-old’s second appearance at the World Darts Championship having suffered a first round exit at the hands of William O’Connor in 2023.
As for Hayter, she can’t wait to toss her first dart at the iconic event.
She is also going into the World Darts Championship with a positive attitude, evidenced by her reply to a user on Facebook.
Underneath a post celebrating Hayter’s qualification, the user commented: “And she will be out 1st round.”
Hayter clapped back: “Probably. But I’ll get £15k for it.”
The 32-year-old hopes to become just the second female to win a match at the World Darts Championship alongside Fallon SherrockGettyAside from picking up a tidy pay packet even if she makes a first round exit, Hayter is excited to make her Ally Pally debut.
“I’ve never been there,” Hayter said.
“I’d like to go and soak up the atmosphere before I play would be good. Just to think about being there is mind-blowing.
“It would be interesting if I draw one of the big players. It would also be funny if I drew Adam Lipscombe if he qualifies as we are really good friends.”
The 2025/26 World Darts Championship begins on December 11.
