Manchester United icon Darren Fletcher’s tactical tweak has sparked a staggering run of form for burgeoning talent JJ Gabriel.
Gabriel, who recently turned 15, has set this season’s Under-18 Premier League alight with the Red Devils.
In the first game of the campaign, a 1-0 win over Everton, Gabriel started on the left wing.
However, he didn’t deliver a goal or an assist.
What did Fletcher change to spark Gabriel’s run of goals?
U18 Red Devils boss Fletcher evidently had a light bulb moment as he decided to change up Gabriel’s position on the field in the very next game against Middlesbrough.
Fletcher, who made over 340 appearances for United as a player, moved Gabriel from the left wing to a centre-forward position.
It was a switch that instantly paid dividends.
Against Middlesbrough, Gabriel netted twice in United’s 5-0 victory.
Yet there was still more to come from the teenager, who only turned 15 on October 6.
In the following match after United’s mauling of Middlesbrough, Gabriel netted a stunning hat-trick as Fletcher’s side smashed Derby County 4-0.
Although Gabriel delivered a blank against Burnley, a match which United won 1-0, he was back amongst the goals against Wolves.
The Red Devils cruised to a 4-0 victory, with Gabriel chipping in with a goal and an assist.
Since Gabriel was moved to a more central role, he has bagged seven goals in five gamesGettyGabriel was once again on the scoresheet in United’s next fixture, which ended in a 4-2 defeat to cross-town rivals Manchester City.
In total, Gabriel has netted seven times since Fletcher moved him into a central role.
The youngster’s goals have helped United sit second on the ladder in the U18 Premier League North, with City in first.
Gabriel shows off his silky skills
Although Fletcher’s tweak for Gabriel has evidently worked, the teenager has put in plenty of graft behind the scenes to hone his skills.
In a clip shared on his X account, Gabriel volleyed a tennis ball against a wall.
But as the video continues, Gabriel moves further and further away while still volleying the ball against the ball with his first touch.
