Murphy could and perhaps should have had the record all to himself, but he opted against it.
In the final frame, ‘The Magician’ snookered himself on the last red and chose to snick the pink, handing Wilson the only points he gained all match.
Wilson’s brother, Taylor, remarked to The Sun that Murphy’s performance was ‘snooker from the gods’ and ‘form that deserves trophies.’
As for Murphy, he struggled to hide his jubilation after the victory but was still surprised he managed to perform at the level he did.
“That’s pretty much as good as I’ve ever played,” Murphy said.

“Of course, the greats – Ronnie O’Sullivan, the John Higgins’, the Mark Williams’ – have been doing it for years, every now and again, people like me do it a little bit.
“It was great today. I knew I had to play well against Kyren. He’s a great champion, the defending champion here, but I didn’t expect to play that well.”
Commenting on Murphy’s utter dominance, TNT Sports commentator David Hendon remarked: “No record, but what an extraordinary performance.
“Kyren Wilson was completely shut out. He didn’t get a look-in the whole match until that foul at the end. They’re the only points he scored, an extraordinary display from Shaun Murphy.
