One fan learnt the hard way that if you’re going to give advice from the sidelines, then you have to be able to back it up.
That’s what happened to one eager spectator at Wimbledon back in 2017 during a Invitation Doubles match between Kim Clijsters and Rennae Stubbs vs Conchita Martinez and Andrea Jaeger.
Clijsters had asked teammate Stubbs about where she should aim her next serve when the fan chipped in with his opinion.
He encouraged the six-time Grand Slam champion, across singles and doubles, to aim for a body serve.
“You said ‘body?’” Clijsters asked, who was clearly amused by the intervention. “Why don’t you go there?”
The seriousness of the match vanished in that instance and the crowd was in fits of laughter.
Martinez even walked over and offered the spectator her racket to see if he really was up to the task.
Many would have recoiled at this suggestion, but the man in question jumped at the chance to step on the court.
Amid all the fits of laughter, Clijsters realised there was a major problem… the Wimbledon dress code.
This states that all players must be wearing full white at all times, even when practicing – something Ons Jabeur once found out before she played the Ladies Singles final.
But Clijsters had the perfect solution – she pulled out of her bag a white skirt and white jacket for him to wear.
Now this spectator was on the larger size, so as you can imagine there were one or two problems with him trying to squeeze into them.

Somehow, he did manage to squeeze into both items of clothing and he was ready to play.
“I hope we don’t have a camera shot from behind,” the commentator quipped.
Clijsters had to regain her composure to hit a serve at the fan – and remarkably he managed to get it back in.
The second shot, however, was less impressive and failed to even reach the net.
He asked for a second go to make the most of a rare opportunity to hit a ball on the Wimbledon courts… only this time he completely missed the serve.
