Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos, a prominent figure in mixed martial arts (MMA), has tragically passed away at the age of 38. Vasconcelos was notable for his participation in organizations such as the UFC and Bellator MMA, as well as his appearance on Season 3 of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil." His career included a total of 16 professional bouts, demonstrating both skill and determination within the octagon . The MMA community has expressed profound sorrow over his untimely death, which remains shrouded in uncertainty as no official cause has been disclosed.
The Brazil-born MMA fighter’s uncle and godfather, Walter Vasconcelos Jr., announced the news via Facebook Tuesday.
“Sad, very sad your farewell, Guilherme Vasconcelos! And so far from us in the USA,” read an English translation of the post, which was originally written in Portuguese and accompanied by a black-and-white photo of the late athlete looking pensive.
“My dear nephew, my consecration godson, extreme father of little Naomi, much loved son of my sister Elisabete Vasconcelos partner of his brothers, Breno and Isabela and our extended family that today mourns his premature departure.”
“We were waiting for you to come for Christmas that will no longer happen. Life is a breath and we wake up to this heartbreaking news. What times we are living in We are praying for you! May the God who is able receive you in His infinite mercy and comfort all of us who have always loved you unconditionally!”
Bomba’s mother, Elisabete Vasconcelos, took to her own Facebook page to lament, “Eternal longing for my beloved son,” which was translated from its original Portuguese.
Bomba — who had recently been competing in the Jiu Jitsu World League — participated in 16 MMA competitions and appeared on Season 3 of the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”
Vasconcelos's legacy extends beyond his athletic accomplishments; he gained significant media attention due to his brief romantic relationship with pop singer Demi Lovato between 2016 and 2017. Friends and family have remembered him not only for his fighting prowess but also for his fearless spirit, as described by his jiu-jitsu coach Cristiano Lazzarini . In recent years, he embraced fatherhood with the birth of his daughter Naomi. The loss of such a multifaceted individual resonates deeply within both the sports community and those who admired him personally .
