14-year-old girl suffers serious injuries in acid attack at London school

The recent incident involving a 14-year-old girl who sustained serious injuries in a suspected acid attack outside Westminster Academy in London has raised significant concerns regarding youth safety and the prevalence of such violent acts. The attack occurred on October 1, 2024, around 4:40 PM, and involved not only the young victim but also a 16-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman, both of whom suffered injuries as well . This alarming event prompts critical discussions about the socio-environmental factors contributing to such extreme behaviors among adolescents.

The girl remains in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries following the incident at Westminster Academy, Westbourne Park, which took place after school hours on Monday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police said: "Urgent inquiries are under way to identify and arrest those responsible."

A boy aged 16 remains in hospital with non life-changing injuries, and the staff member, a woman aged 27, has been sent home from hospital after also being hurt in the attack.

Officers who responded with paramedics and the London fire brigade found three people injured, including a 14-year-old girl “whose injuries may potentially be life-changing” and who remains in hospital, police have said.

A 16-year-old boy, whose injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, also remains in hospital, while a 27-year-old woman has been discharged from hospital.

Two officers were taken to hospital as a precaution after they reported feeling unwell.

“Tests of the substance are ongoing,” the Metropolitan police said. “At this stage officers believe it to be acidic. Urgent inquiries are under way to identify and arrest those responsible. A number of crime scenes are in place.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police on patrol were flagged down at 4.42pm on Monday, Sep 30 by staff at a school in Alfred Road W2 after a substance was allegedly thrown at pupils and a staff member.

“Officers responded with paramedics and the London Fire Brigade and found three people injured.

“Urgent inquiries are underway to identify and arrest those responsible. A number of crime scenes are in place.”

In a statement on the school’s website, Westminster Academy said the site was closed on Tuesday due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

The school was contacted by The Telegraph for comment. It is a non-selective academy for pupils aged 11 to 18.
