The year was 2024, and wrestling fans from around the world gathered at the historic Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina for the highly anticipated AEW Revolution event. The atmosphere was electric as the crowd eagerly awaited the final match of the night, a showdown between two of the biggest stars in professional wrestling.
As the competitors made their way to the ring, tensions were high and emotions ran deep. The energy in the arena was palpable as fans cheered and jeered their favorite wrestlers. The match itself was a true spectacle, with both athletes giving it their all in a display of athleticism and showmanship.
Five AEW Championships were on the line as Orange Cassidy defended the TNT Championship against Roderick Strong, Timeless Toni Storm defended the AEW Women’s Championship against Deonna Purrazzo, Christian Cage defended his AEW TNT Championship against Daniel Garcia and—in his final match (for now)—Sting and Darby Allin defended the AEW World Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks.
AEW Dynamite this past weekend garnered 822,000 viewers.
Cage stumbled over Garcia and faked an ankle injury to thumb Garcia in the eye. Cage initially looked to make fun of Garcia's dance, but instead he flexed his muscle. Garcia leaped from the top rope onto Garcia on the outside.
A TNT Championship match between Christian Cage and Daniel Garcia has been booked for the show, as has an AEW International Championship scrap between champion Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong.
Fans will also get to witness what figures to be an absolute banger between former NJPW star Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita.
Allin had it worse as his moonsault attempt off the ladder came up empty as he crashed through a pane of glass with his back split open and bleeding profusely.
But regardless of whatever punishment The Young Bucks put him through, Sting kept fighting back and his late surge as well as opening moments, when he blasted them with Stinger Splashes all around, helped put his team over the top in a memorable night that had him joined by the likes of Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat.
Sting ended his night and career by thanking the fans as they returned the sentiment, showering the legend with chants of "You still got it!"
Even the 8-man All-Star Scramble figures to provide some intrigue, as the winner earns a world title opportunity. Could it, for instance, be used to point Wardlow toward the top of the card? It will be interesting to see.
