ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Republicans in Monroe County prepared to meet as the race for New York attorney general drew attention to two candidates with different approaches.

Letitia James, the current attorney general, faced former federal prosecutor Saritha Komatireddy in the election. James campaigned as a defender against President Donald Trump and what she called his cruelty and corruption, while Komatireddy focused on crime fighting and targeting repeat offenders.
“We need to deal with the repeat offender issue and make sure where we don’t have a system. We’re known dangerous individuals keep getting arrested and released,” Komatireddy said. “And we need a system where we can take folks who are severely mentally ill and get them into treatment,” said Komatireddy.
“Tomorrow is the dawn of a new beginning. Tomorrow is the day of reckoning,” James said in a video posted to her campaign Instagram page. “Tomorrow is judgment day. Because now is the time to stop the chaos, the cruelty and the corruption that we are witnessing in Washington D.C.,” said James.
James was not available for an interview, but her campaign allowed News10NBC to use her video posted to social media. Four years ago, James won the attorney general race by more than 23,000 votes, and the last time a Republican held the office was in 1998.
