Fellow emos, rejoice! My Chemical Romance and The Used have finally shared a stage again.
At their Los Angeles show on Friday, October 30, the bands reunited for their first performance together in years, bringing a long-running fan conversation to a new chapter.
The show took place at the iconic Hollywood Bowl and is one of two finale shows for the United States of MCR’s Long Live the Black Parade tour. The last U.S. show will take place on Saturday, October 31, with Thrice joining instead of The Used.
The appearance also marked the first time the groups shared the stage since their early-2000s emo heyday, the moment carried extra weight as their friendship and fallout had become almost as famous as the music they made together.
During his set, McCraken said “mom and dad are back together again,” which was received with tons of applause from the audience. Shortly after, Way came out to sing “Buried Myself Alive” with McCraken, which threw diehards for a loop as many were expecting “Under Pressure.”
About a quarter of the way through MCR’s set Way said that the band wasn’t going to be playing the cover with The Used, which was met with some boos from crowd. But McCracken did join Way for “You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison.” Way also revealed the band is making a new record and taking all of 2027 off to do so.
What was the drama between My Chemical Romance and The Used?
On Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast in October 2025, The Used frontman Bert McCracken looked back on his friendship with My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way. “We had a really beautiful friendship,” he said, recalling that The Used took MCR on an early European tour and that he encouraged his label’s A&R representative to sign them.
McCracken described their dynamic as a “long-standing joke that we’re frenemies,” adding, “It’s only coming from my side.” He said the rift was tied to Way getting sober. At the time, McCracken took Way’s distance as a personal slight and thought he was being judged for partying. “And I didn’t understand that at the time,” he admitted.

McCracken later recognized that Way was focused on his recovery. He also acknowledged feeling hurt by the end of their friendship and making critical remarks about Way’s artistic integrity. The two have spoken since, and McCracken said he has “full respect” for Way.
In the same episode, McCracken said, “take us out on tour, My Chem,” saying that the band was “ready.” Steve-O chimed in, saying it would be “the sickest thing ever,” with McCracken agreeing that it would “break the internet.”
When did they last perform “Under Pressure” together?
My Chemical Romance and The Used first brought their cover of “Under Pressure” to the stage during the 2005 Taste of Chaos tour, where it became an encore featuring members of both bands.
McCracken teased the possibility of performing the song in February 2026 on The Sappenin’ Podcast with Sean Smith. During the conversation, he insisted, “there’s no way we won’t do under pressure. We have to.” The group joked that someone could wear a wig and stand in for Way if he didn’t join them.
