“My Sister, Goose”

by Alyssa Capucilli

As Goose’s big sister, Miranda helps to guide Goose and her big imagination every day. Goose wants to wear fancy high heels to play at the park! Goose is excited to wear her bathing suit to school! Goose’s unique and splashy fashion choices are the hallmark of her persona. As a responsible big sister, Miranda takes seriously the job of offering gentle and nurturing counsel to Goose, suggesting more practical choices instead. This new picture book by Alyssa Capucilli, who is also the author of the very popular books about Biscuit the dog, is a celebration of individuality, of sibling relationships, and a nod to the sometimes-struggle of just getting kids dressed in the morning! Miranda and Goose’s spirited and sometimes frustrating sisterhood is an authentic glimpse into mutual admiration, in spite of it all. Recommended for kids ages 4-8.

“What Comes After”

by JoAnne Tompkins

The novel draws upon her judicial career spent working with families in crisis to examine how those closest to a crime move on, and learn to live again, after an unthinkable crime. This book focuses on Isaac, a man whose rage and deep reverence for his Quaker faith play out equally in the face of his son’s murder, Lorrie, whose guilt as the mother of the perpetrator is plain to see, and Evangeline, a homeless young woman who holds the key to what really happened that fateful day. Together, Isaac, Lorrie, and Evangeline work together to piece together the tragedy and learn to forgive one another. Recommended for adults, this slow paced, character driven novel is perfect for those who loved “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.
