It looks like GM Ryan Poles is going all-in on the 2026 Chicago Bears with the reported acquisition of defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.
This is a blockbuster. NFL insider Tom Pelissero was the first to report on the deal and has since added the compensation (two firsts and a fourth!) as I was writing this post. We’ll update with more details come out and the smoke settles. But for now, just know that this is a HUGE FREAKING DEAL. It deserves all caps and probably a few thousand words, but I’ll be succinct here for now.

Here is what colleague Patrick Flowers had to say about Simmons, who was on BN’s list of 17 best trade fits for the Bears:
He’s an All-Pro defensive lineman on the right side of 30. He signed an extension with the Titans over the summer, so he’s under control as well, making him even more valuable to any interested team. Tennessee has one win this season, and Simmons will command premium draft capital that could help them expedite their rebuild if they choose to move him. The reasons to acquire him are obvious, but the price will be steep.
Good pull by Patrick. Two first-rounders and a fourth *IS* a steep price. But I imagine the Bears are comfortable paying it, especially since they got a first-hand look at what Simmons is all about when they traveled to Nashville for joint practices with the Titans back in August.
Jeffery Simmons is a four-time Pro Bowler who was a first-team All-Pro in 2025. Last season, he had 11 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, and 17 tackles-for-loss. Through the first seven games of this season, Simmons has 4 sacks, 6 TFLs, and 9 QB hits. In short, he is and has been a disruptive difference-maker in the trenches. I’m sure Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen is thrilled to see this news.
It’s been a busy week for the Bears, who missed out on trades for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and offensive lineman Quenton Nelson with the Indianapolis Colts. But that’s gonna feel like water under the bridge now with Jeffery Simmons set to join the Bears.
