The Blackhawks are in Detroit tonight. One thing we’ll be keeping an eye on during the annual dad’s trip is if the Hawks give both goalies a start. Spencer Knight has started 10 of the Blackhawks’ 12 games so far. Arvid Söderblom‘s last start came at the Islanders three weeks ago. When asked about the rotation, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill has said they have a plan, and the five-day layoff between games this past week helped give Knight a bit of a physical reset. With that being said, going 21 days between appearances isn’t ideal no matter the schedule. We’ll see if perhaps they get him back on the ice tonight against the Red Wings and let Knight go in Boston (where he went to college).
Here’s one Blackhawks Boston college (not capital C college) goalie product talking about the one who attended BC:
Commesso and Knight have known each other for years. Drew highlighted the two goalies' similarities on and off the ice ?"I love watching him, I learn a lot from him. I think Spencer's edges and his skating is so good, it's just so crisp. That's one thing I take from him: his… pic.twitter.com/sr027GExwE
— Dana Grey (@DanaGrey0) October 28, 2026 Since we’re talking about the Hawks and Boston University, a reminder that Xavier Villeneuve and the Terriers play Harvard tonight. The Blackhawks are taking their dads on the trip to Detroit and Boston this week. Bowen Byram was also on the plane yesterday, but Blashill wouldn’t give us a firm return date. So stay tuned there… Patrick Kane returns to Detroit with 899 career assists. A good read here from Ben Pope on Alex Vlasic maintaining some perspective amidst the Blackhawks’ struggles against the some of the top teams in the league to start the season.Alex Vlasic actually appreciates how difficult the Blackhawks' schedule has been."It’s fun, honestly, to play different teams that have had success — teams like Florida, Carolina, Vegas — that can give us an example of how they play."Story: t.co/t51tMBckdH
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) October 28, 2026 Dylan Larkin wasn’t on the ice for the Red Wings practice yesterday, which raised some eyeballs on social media. It was reportedly just a maintenance day for the former captain (who still has an outstanding trade request). He’s expected to be in the lineup against the Blackhawks tonight. Chris Chelios was on the Wingmen podcast with the Tkachuk brothers, which was highly entertaining. Here’s a clip.A post shared by Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk (@wingmenpod)
More Blackhawks trade rumors….
I wrote about some of the smoke around the Blackhawks on the trade market on Wednesday morning. On his “Frankly Speaking” podcast on Wednesday, Frank Seravalli poured ice cold water on anyone trying to connect the Blackhawks and Flyers on any trade scenarios. He wasn’t alone in that regard. I do my best to vet rumors before diving in. Which is why I didn’t waste a lot of your time/space with a thinkpiece on that one. Even Philly folks know better…Not sure why I've seen "Frank Nazar to the Flyers" rumors on this app but if you think that's something that might actually happen, kindly remove your head from…well, you know t.co/8vSry6a0cj
— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) October 28, 2026 Meanwhile… During his weekly “DFO Live” appearance on Wednesday, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period added to the reports the Blackhawks are looking to add a scoring winger up front via trade. Pagnotta reported the Hawks have spoken with the Washington Capitals about forward Ivan Miroshnichenko, who is actively being shopped by the Caps. I’m not sure Miroshnichenko fits the “big, shoot-first winger” description that’s being peddled as the Blackhawks’ wish list; he’s been credited with 57 shots on net in 55 career NHL games. But he’s certainly out there drawing interest right now. Miroshnichenko, 22, was the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft — the first round that saw the Blackhawks select Kevin Korchinski, Frank Nazar and Sam Rinzel. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen wrote that the Senators are also one of the teams looking to add a scoring winger already this season. In his piece, Garrioch adds to the chorus saying the market isn’t very warm for impact deals right now. Among the names he repots as being out there: Blackhawks veteran Teuvo Teräväinen. One forward who is reportedly being shopped who I could see the Blackhawks calling on is Vancouver wing Drew O’Connor. He’s 28, big (6-4, 209), fast and likes to shoot. O’Connor is in the final year of a contract with a $2.5M cap hit (UFA in 2027) and Vancouver is reportedly looking to add young pieces — something the Blackhawks have plenty to work with in negotiations. Oh, and the Canucks have done business with Kyle Davidson a few times already… The Columbus Blue Jackets put veteran left-handed defenseman Carson Soucy on waivers. Soucy’s 32 and is on a one-year deal that pays $1.15M. He’s big (6-5, 207) and hits and blocks shots. The Blackhawks already have too many defensemen – especially left-handed d-men. But I’m intrigued because he plays a physical style of game the Blackhawks are only getting from Ian Cole and, when he’s dressed, Ethan Del Mastro. Soucy has averaged 98 blocked shots per 82 games played over his NHL career. Odds are likely zero the Hawks put a claim on Soucy, but he’s the kind of guy they could use. The Toronto Maple Leafs, who visit the Blackhawks on Nov. 17, dropped a laundry list of injury updates on Wednesday:Leafs injury news:Nick Blankenburg: Week-to-week, upper body injuryDakota Joshua recalled from conditioning loanKirill Marchenko: Week-to-week, lower body injury Chris Tanev: Day-to-day, upper body injury John Tavares, Marshall Rifai: Week-to-week, lower body injury
