Blackhawks Trade Buzz Heating Up Before Halloween? ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

There were some big name players still waiting for a contract or trade request to be fulfilled when the 2026-27 regular season began. Now that one of the big pieces has finally moved (Connor Hellebuyck to New Jersey), the NHL rumor mill is starting to pick up. And the Chicago Blackhawks are actually getting a lot of buzz.

TSN’s Darren Dreger was on the Bleed Oil Blue podcast earlier this week and talked about the Blackhawks.

“They’ve been bold in Chicago. They have been,” Dreger said. “But there’s a ton more work to do. I don’t have Chicago as a front burner team, but maybe we should because of the needs that they have. But when I’m talking to other general managers, I don’t get a lot of ‘keep an eye on Chicago because they’re willing to do this, here’s what they’re looking for,’ that sort of thing… but inevitably they’re going to have to continue to add pieces. And they’re probably at a place now where they’ve gotta be careful with what those adds look like, right? They’ve gotta be players who are age sensitive, who are slightly older maybe than [Connor] Bedard, who can help Bedard and grow with Bedard.”

On CHSN’s pregame show, Frank Seravalli reported the Blackhawks are active in the market looking for bigger forwards.

“I’m told Davidson is ready to (shake things up),” Seravalli said. “I’m told he’s been active on that front, inquiring specifically about acquiring shoot-first, scoring wingers with size around the NHL…mark that pretty high on their priority list.”

However, Seravalli also noted the market is only luke warm right now.

Lots of Eyes on the Blackhawks

Based on the number of scouts at the United Center for the last few games, the Blackhawks are clearly trying to get someone interested in their NHL roster.

Going back to the Blackhawks game against the Dallas Stars, there has been an interesting — and longer than usual — list of guests in the press box to watch games in Chicago. That number jumped on Tuesday night.

There were 18(!) teams scouting the Blackhawks and Kings last night at the United Center. I tweeted the full list. There were four assistant general managers on the list and eight others whose title was higher on the food chain than pro scout. That continues a recent trend of guys whose titles are higher than pro scout being in Chicago recently.

I also noted that 25 of the 32 teams in the league have had at least one representative on the guest list between the last two Blackhawks home games.

However, the Flyers — who have had a little buzz between them and the Hawks since Keith Jones was in Chicago — were not among those teams to be watching the game. The Blackhawks also did not have someone on a lengthy guest list for the Blue Jackets and Flyers last night. I wrote about the Blackhawks potentially targeting Owen Tippett a couple weeks ago… he would fit the Seravalli’s description of what the Hawks are looking for right now. Tippett’s currently on IR.

There has been some mentioning of Frank Nazar and Oliver Moore online this week, specifically tied to Philadelphia. It would be very surprising if the Blackhawks moved either player considering Nazar is just starting his long-term extension and Moore just signed an extension that kicks in next year. You never say never in the NHL, but I’m not sure either is actually available (even if teams ask about them).

However, when Chris Johnston at The Athletic updated his trade big board this week, another Blackhawks skater showed up: Kevin Korchinski came in at No. 19 on Johnston’s list.
