Posey answered by saying, “I’m not doing it,” which effectively left the Today Show host stunned and confused. He pointed at his note cards, which said, “Right here, it says that you’re doing Sleepover.”
The moment led to a flurry of embarrassment for Posey, who clarified, “No. I’m not doing it anymore. It is true. Now I’m sweating. Can I use this as a fan?” While fanning herself with Melvin’s cue cards, she clarifies that she was tied to the project, but something came up that caused her to step away.
“Okay, well, now it’s even more awkward than usual,” Melvin joked.
Posey then tried to divert the conversation to talk about Melvin’s winning PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Morning TV History” after a reader’s choice poll. The host was still stuck on the error in the information about the horror film.
He asked, “Are you really not doing Sleepover? Did I screw that up?” before the actor confirmed once again, and Melvin begged co-host Carson Daly to “save us, please” and move on to the next segment. Daly sadly rejected his plea by saying they would likely get another viral clip if they stayed on the air.
Variety had initially reported that Posey was set to star in the horror-thriller that was scheduled to release in 2027. It’s a film from Blumhouse Atomic Monster , and Universal Pictures, based on McGuire’s short stories.
