2026 DUTCH QUALIFIERS
Thursday, October 22nd – Sunday, October 25th Rotterdam, Netherlands SCM (25m) SwimSwam Preview Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap Live Results LivestreamDay three of the 2026 Dutch Qualifiers brought us a national record, as Sean Niewold busted out a lifetime best in the men’s 100m freestyle in his quest to qualify for this year’s Short Course World Championships.
Swimming in the B-final of the 1free, 24-year-old Niewold stopped the clock at a swift mark of 46.36.
That shaved .02 off the former Dutch standard of 46.38 Stan Pijnenburg put on the books at the 2021 European Championships.
Entering this competition, Niewold’s career-swiftest sat at the 46.72 he established just earlier this month during the Astana stop of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup. That means his performance here hacked .36 off that prior performance to become the fastest Dutchman in history.
Niewold’s effort represented the sole time of the field to clear the 46.89 selection standard needed for Beijing. The next-fastest man was Brandon van den Berg, who notched 47.17 as the winner of the A-final.

Giele produced a result of 59.01 as one of two swimmers to clear the 1:00 threshold, with runner-up Kim Busch joining her under the barrier in a silver medal-worthy 59.82. Giele’s outing was enough to stamp her ticket to Beijing, getting under the 59.65 QT set by the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB).
Noah Verreth accomplished the same feat in the men’s 50m back, putting up a new meet record of 23.29 as he eked out a qualification time under the 23.37 selection standard.
Verreth was the only man to do so, as newly minted 200 back national record holder Kai van Westering, formerly of Indiana University, fell short with a runner-up performance of 23.98.
Imani de Jong added the 200m freestyle to her list of victories, with the 24-year-old turning in a time of 1:53.81 to top the podium and add the event to her Short Course World Championships program.
That marked a monster lifetime best for the athlete, destroying her former PB of 1:55.55 from last year’s European Short Course Championships.

Visiting Olympic champion Tatjana Smith continued her out-of-retirement campaign with a win in the 200m breaststroke. Smith stopped the clock at 2:19.96 for the decisive victory, beating the competition by over 7 seconds. Another foreign swimmer, Eszter Szabo Feltothy of Hungary, made her presence known by getting to the wall first in the women’s 400m IM.
