‘The Goldbergs’ Star Says He Planned to Take His Own Life After Being Fired From Hit Sitcom: ‘I Had a Nervous Breakdown’ ...Saudi Arabia

Jeff Garlin is revealing some harsh facts about the turbulent period that led to his firing from The Goldbergs.

Originally starring in the hit ABC series for nine seasons, Garlin was ultimately let go from the series over allegations of workplace misconduct.

As media scrutiny continued to zero in on Garlin’s supposed behavior on set of the sitcom, the actor said that he was seriously considering taking his own life amidst a serious mental breakdown.

“I had a nervous breakdown, and I was going to commit suicide,” Garlin confessed on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name.

As he weighed his options, Garlin said he contacted his Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Susie Essman with a suicide note, prompting her to take immediate action.

“I reached out to Susie, and I said, ‘I hate when people don’t reach out, but at noon today I will be dead. I’m letting you know I will be dead,'” Garlin said. “And she called [ex-wife] Marla, and she called [girlfriend] Sari, and my friend, Brad Morris. My girlfriend and my ex-wife called him. He’s one of my best friends. He watched me while they were looking for a place for me to go.”

In the end, Garlin ultimately went through dialectical behavior therapy in Ohio to help improve his mental health after the episode, preferring Ohio to the rehab clinics in Hollywood.

“I went to Cincinnati because I was serious,” he said. “I’m not going to some rehab in Beverly Hills. F**k that, man.”

In the years since, Garlin has also said that his mental health has been improved drastically, thanks in large part to therapy, physical activity and the completion of his new book, Best Seat in the House: Moments No One Asked Me to Capture… But I Did Anyway.

“I’m just now feeling really good,” Garlin said. “Just now. Maybe the book coming out, but around now, really.”
