CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. — A Sodus man is facing charges after being accused of breaking into a home and stealing a safe that State Police say had cash and personal documents inside it.
State Police say they responded to a home on King Road on Oct. 10 for a reported burglary. Investigators say Alvin Benjamin went into the home and stole a safe that had about $1,800 in cash and personal documents.
Investigators say they got surveillance footage of a car in the area at the same time of the burglary, which helped identify Benjamin as a suspect.
On Oct. 20, State Police say Benjamin contacted them and voluntarily responded to the barracks in Canandaigua. They say he returned the safe and about $1,200 in cash.
Benjamin was arrested and charged with burglary and grand larceny. He was brought to the Ontario County Jail.
