The women of Happy’s Place have a uniquely special bond. In fact, co-stars Reba McEntire, Melissa Peterman and Belissa Escobedo would call it a “sisterhood.”
“I definitely feel a sisterhood with these with these two ladies right here,” Peterman, 55, shares in a joint interview with McEntire, 71, and Escobedo, 28, for Parade. “We’ve had a lot of years to establish a trusting relationship.”
Speaking specifically to her bond with McEntire, with whom she became close after starring on six seasons of Reba in the 2000s, the Baby Daddy alum says: “I trust her! She knows everything, and still she knows all my secrets and loves me anyway.”

“With Belissa, I feel like there’s a trust there that has been built up [over the last few years],” Peterman continues. “We know each we’ve got each other’s back, no matter what. We have it at work. We have it in when we leave work in our personal life. I hope that she feels that because I trust her implicitly, and it’s that knowing that we’ve got each other’s backs, always.”
To Peterman’s point, Escobedo also notes the similarities between the trio’s on-and-offscreen dynamic.
“It’s so similar to the show in that these two have a long history together,” Escobedo begins, referencing McEntire and Peterman before calling attention to herself, saying, “and then a new person comes in. It’s very much parallel to that.”
Adding to Escobedo’s observation, McEntire realizes: “I didn’t even think about that!”

In the season 1 premiere of Happy’s Place, Bobbie (McEntire) and Isabella (Escobedo) discover they’re half-sisters in the aftermath of their father’s death. Although Gabby (Peterman) expressed a desire to have been revealed as Bobbie’s long-lost sister in that same episode, Gabby does eventually become a mentor to Isabella.
Outside of this, McEntire and Peterman—who starred as nemeses connected by a shared ex-husband (Christopher Rich) on Reba—got to play sisters in the 2023 Lifetime original movie Reba McEntire’s The Hammer.
McEntire, Peterman and Escobedo are now gearing up for the third season premiere of their hit NBC sitcom. Before production on the new season began, the “Fancy” songstress recalls desiring to return from hiatus sooner because she wanted to be around her co-stars.

“When we go on hiatus, I’m like, ‘I don’t want to go on hiatus. I want to go back to work, see my buddies,'” the Grammy winner says. “This is the best environment for a job you can pick. Really, it is. I’ll take one morning to sleep in on hiatus but then, I don’t need all that other days. I want to come back right away, too. I miss them. We have fun together!”
Escobedo also notes that it’s “always a positive energy” on the comedy’s set.
“Working on a sitcom, a multi-cam, we just get to be silly most of the time,” she adds. “That’s a lot of fun, too.”
Season 3 of Happy’s Place premieres Friday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. New episodes can be streamed the next day on Peacock.
