Gym Class Heroes’ State Fair of Texas performance took an unexpected turn Saturday night.
The abrupt ending happened after frontman Travie McCoy made a comment about President Donald Trump during the Dallas show on October 17. The band had been performing alongside 3OH!3 at the fair.
In a video shared on Instagram, McCoy can be heard changing a lyric in “Billionaire,” his 2010 collaboration with Bruno Mars, to call for Trump’s impeachment. The performance was cut short before “Stereo Hearts,” but McCoy and the crowd carried on with the song together a cappella.
Why Gym Class Heroes’ set ended early
The timing led fans to connect the early ending with McCoy’s political remarks. However, the reason for the cutoff has not been confirmed. In a Reddit discussion, one commenter said the fair’s president had emailed them that the act was scheduled to play until 9:15 p.m. but was cut off around 8:50 p.m. “because of cussing.”
Fans shared mixed reactions to the night, with some upset about the interrupted performance and schedule changes.

“Wouldn’t be surprised if it was in their contract that he can’t say that. Would make him doing it even better,” one pointed out.
Gym Class Heroes’ early-2000s rise
Gym Class Heroes formed in 1997, when McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley met in high school. The group broke through with its 2005 album The Papercut Chronicles, then scored hits including “Cupid’s Chokehold” and “Stereo Hearts.” Its mix of rock, hip-hop, and pop made the band a fixture of the 2000s alternative scene.
McCoy discussed the group’s return to making music with PEOPLE in October 2025. “It just took awhile to suss out the business end of things. So, we’ve been inactive for a while, but I’ve been making Gym Class music since the last record,” he said to the outlet. “I’ve put out a solo record as well. But Gym Class never really went anywhere.”
