UNC was outplayed on both ends of the floor against Indiana in the Tar Heels’ second exhibition of the preseason Sunday evening, and the Hoosiers won 76-58 in Indianapolis.
Indiana flexed its muscles on the glass, outrebounding Carolina by a dominant 53-31 margin. The Hoosiers had more defensive rebounds (33) than UNC had in total. Indiana turned its 20 offensive rebounds into 17 second-chance points, with Carolina lagging far behind at seven second-chance points.
Despite the size advantage, it was an Indiana guard who dominated the game, as Bryce Linday scored 26 points off the bench and made four three-pointers. Lindsay’s explosive play helped the Hoosier bench outscore UNC’s 37-19. Meanwhile, no Tar Heel scored more than 12 points. Jarin Stevenson finished with only three after putting up 25 points in Carolina’s first preseason exhibition last week.
As a team, UNC shot just 22-for-63 (34.9%) and 7-for-13 (53.8%) at the free throw line. Conversely, Indiana shot 22 free throws and made 17. Lindsay alone made nearly as many free throws (six) as the entire Tar Heel team.
Matt Able scored 11 for Carolina after a scoreless outing in the first preseason game, but Terrence Brown struggled again with only seven points on 3-for-9 shooting. Brown has just 12 points across UNC’s two exhibition games so far.
The Tar Heels will wrap up their preseason exhibition schedule when they host Charlotte at the Dean Smith Center Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
