ROCHESTER, N.Y. — This week’s episode starts off with a focus on education. Lynette talks with two organization leaders about their commitment to Together Achieving More. The second interview is with the founder of READY, an educational program. Next, it’s a chat with leaders from an after-school learning center. The last interview is with the owner of a unique local bar.
Together Achieving More, a team-up between EDceptional and Let’s Get Lit, has taken bold new steps to improve literacy and student achievement. Clianda Florence and Pastor Sebrone Johnson have worked to move the needle on literacy and student achievement. The two talk about challenges and the importance of collaboration.
Dr. Shanai Lee, founder and executive director of the READY Program, shared her perspective in an interview recorded earlier this year. She also talks about the importance of collaboration and explains how READY helps educators, as well as how it helps assess the quality of schools. She explains READY’s mission to increase the number of high-performing schools in Rochester and to launch new school ideas.
Doctors Burnice and Karen Green, who run the Isaiah Stewart Vision Afterschool Learning Center, discussed opening enrollment for this school year, which now includes kindergarten students. Stewart is an NBA player who was born in Rochester. Burnice Green talks about Stewart’s role in the program, including Stewart’s involvement on a regular basis. The interview also discusses why the Greens dedicate themselves to focusing on this program during their busy lifestyles.
Lynette also visited the Legacy Wine Bar, which remains a vibrant spot in the community. Owner Ebony Smart explained the inspiration behind the name. Additionally, Smart talks about the artwork the business has, including the specific style choice. She explains the importance of family-owned wines, including what “paint and sip” is, in relation to what the business provides.
