Pat McAfee can play to the home crowd on College GameDay, wherever the popular Saturday morning pregame show happens to be set on that particular week.
The former Pro Bowl punter for the Indianapolis Colts who played his college ball at West Virginia has become known for something totally different as an analyst and host on ESPN. McAfee is done playing the game, but he’s all around it now, and on College GameDay he’s the de facto “crazy person” who will constantly stretch the limits.
On Saturday morning in Provo, Utah, where the show was being set in the leadup to the huge Notre Dame-BYU top-10 showdown, McAfee decided to stretch those limits with a twist, even for him. Let’s just say McAfee could read the room, because he was in the land of the Mormons, in the state of Utah, in Provo and at BYU.
So, naturally, during a segment of the show that probably will never be duplicated, or at least until the show returns to Provo, McAfee read from the Book of Mormon, as co-hosts Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard played along pretty well.
The Book of Mormon is defined as being a religious text of the Latter Day Saint movement, and it was first published in 1830 by Joseph Smith. So, about a few hundred years later, McAfee provided some religious bantering in front of some screaming, crazy BYU fans who showed up very early for Saturday’s show.
