While White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia’s brief tenure ended in record time, fans are already imagining how Saturday Night Live could turn the political shake-up into comedy. And one idea involves her suggested celebrity look-alike, Scarlett Johansson, and Johansson’s husband, Colin Jost.
There’s just one catch: Fans won’t see how SNL handles the story tonight. The show is taking a two-week break from new episodes and is scheduled to return October 31, giving its writers extra time to figure out what to do with Zacharia’s whirlwind week.
Zacharia was dismissed from her role on Friday, October 16, after just five days on the job, making her tenure shorter than that of former Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who lasted 10 days during the president’s first administration. Her departure followed a rocky debut at the White House briefing podium and mounting scrutiny over her professional credentials. President Donald Trump had publicly suggested she reconsider the position before news of her departure emerged.
Before leaving the role, Zacharia said she wanted Johansson to portray her on SNL. Now, fans on Reddit’s Live From New York community are pitching ideas for how the NBC sketch comedy show could handle her short-lived time in the White House.
One fan proposed a Weekend Update segment featuring cast member Sarah Sherman playing Zacharia, joking that she looks like Johansson and could spend the sketch trying to kiss Jost.
Another commenter embraced the idea, writing, “Oh, so Colin Jost then. After all, he’s Scarlett Johansson’s type.”
Other fans had their own casting suggestions, including Mikey Day in a blonde wig and Danny DeVito wearing one without even attempting an impression.
Johansson has appeared on SNL multiple times over the years, while Jost is a longtime cast member and Weekend Update co-anchor. Their real-life marriage adds another layer to the fan-pitched scenario, although there’s no indication that Johansson is scheduled to appear as Zacharia.
For now, fans will have to wait until October 31 to see whether SNL takes a shot at the White House shake-up — and whether the show’s writers have their own ideas for Zacharia’s replacement.
