Oman Cables Industry (SAOG) has officially broken ground on Plant 3 in Rusayl Industrial City. The project expands the company’s manufacturing capacity and technical capability to serve accelerating energy, and infrastructure demands across Oman, the GCC, and the broader region.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. Representing an investment of over US $26mn, Plant 3 is a core milestone in Oman Cables’ ongoing US $39mn advanced manufacturing expansion program.
This expansion directly addresses the region’s surging energy requirements. Power demand across the Middle East and North Africa tripled between 2000 and 2024 and is projected to grow by an additional 50% by 2035. With nearly 40% of MENA power sector investment over the next decade dedicated to grid expansion and modernization, utilities, developers, and contractors increasingly demand consistent quality and dependable, locally sourced supply chains.
To meet these evolving market needs, Plant 3 builds on more than 4 decades of Oman Cables’ manufacturing experience, creating a future-ready industrial platform. The facility will feature a 42m cable production tower alongside heavy-duty logistics capability for cable drums exceeding 4m and handling weights of up to 50t.
Behind these scale enhancements is a heavy focus on digital transformation, operational precision, workplace safety, and sustainability. Plant 3 integrates a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), AI-driven predictive maintenance, and real-time AI quality monitoring to ensure complete visibility across the manufacturing lifecycle. Safety is embedded natively into operations through AI-powered forklift safety systems, real-time risk monitoring, and strict adherence to Lean Manufacturing and 6S standards. Sustainability is equally central to this approach, building on over 50 circularity and energy-efficiency initiatives across the company’s operations, reinforcing its broader pathway towards lower-carbon manufacturing and embedding sustainability across every stage of its operations.
