SPENCERPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Dylan Cook achieved his dream of becoming the starting goalie for Spencerport boys soccer after years of hard work and determination.
“I’ve wanted this for years. This was my dream as a little kid, ever since eighth grade. I remember writing about it in a little paper I had for English class. It’s a big thing for me to be out there on the field,” Cook said.
Cook said he pushed himself over this past summer heading into his senior year, to earn the starting spot.

So, over this past summer, over from my junior year to my senior year, I knew I had to push myself in order to claim this position,” Cook said.
He admitted he did not expect to perform as well as he has this season. “I didn’t think that I was going to perform this well. Goalies obviously have that overthinking part of it where we always think we’re going to do bad. I’m exceeding my own expectations, so that’s what I was looking for,” Cook said.
Cook set a goal of 11 shutouts for the season and is close to reaching it.
“11 shutouts for the total year. Right now I’m at 10. We have another game tomorrow (Thursday), so hopefully I’m going to make that 11,” Cook said.
A scoreless draw against Churchville-Chili stood out as a highlight for Cook and his team.
“As much as I wish we scored, goalies can’t put balls in the back of the net, they can only save the team from losing that 1-0 2-0, so that was probably my team’s best game of the season,” Cook said.
Cook has met his personal goals, while the Rangers continue to aim for a trip to the state tournament. News10NBC congratulates Dylan Cook as the latest Scholar Athlete of the Week.
