ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re tracking an unsettled end to the work week as an area of low pressure passes overhead on Friday. Temperatures will initially fall into the upper 40s Thursday night, but climb through the 50s and into the low 60s by early Friday morning. We’ll also see our first round of showers and some possible thunder early Friday morning with the passage of a warm front. We’ll likely see a lull in the showers late morning into the early afternoon, before showers pick up again with a cold front. In all, Friday won’t be a washout, but we’ll have several opportunities for some rain. The wind will also be noticeable – it’ll be windiest in the morning in the higher elevations, then pick up more in the evening as the cold front passes. Winds will gust out of the south in the morning, then northwest in the evening 30-35 mph.
Then it’ll turn much chillier to kick off the weekend. Temperatures on Saturday will peak in the mid 40s. We’ll see a few widely scattered showers, but it may be chilly enough for some flakes to mix in in the higher elevations of the Finger Lakes in the morning. Some graupel is also possible, but any mix will end very quickly, leaving us with plenty of sunshine for the afternoon. Sunday will start off in the 30s with frost likely away from the lake, but we’ll warm very nicely into the afternoon under nearly full sunshine.
Then, we may be in for a week of spectacular fall weather much of next week as a blocking pattern sets up. This means our weather gets “stuck,” and lucky for us – we look like we’ll be stuck under an area of high pressure. This should keep us dry all week, with a good deal of sunshine and temperatures back into the lower half of the 60s.
