Carlin Bates got a pregnancy test as a joke gift.
It came back positive.
The Bringing Up Bates star, 28, is expecting her fourth baby with her husband, Evan Stewart, a rep for the couple confirmed on Thursday, Oct. 15. The baby is due in May.
It’ll join big sister Layla Rae, 6, big brother Zade Patrick, 4, and big sister Navy Kate, who’s only 13 months old.

The Gag Gift That Wasn’t a Gag
“Evan and I did a couples challenge gift exchange we saw on social media, and as a joke, he bought me a pregnancy test,” Carlin said. “Later that day, I took the test for fun with our 1-year-old, and I was SHOCKED it was positive!”
She usually likes to plan something cute to tell Evan. Not this time. “I was so surprised I immediately told him,” she said. “We just stood there staring at the test, trying to process what we were seeing.”
It’ll be the first time they’ve had two kids under 2. “We thought three kids had us outnumbered, but I’m thinking four is a whole new level!” she joked.
They haven’t decided whether to find out if it’s a boy or a girl. They found out with two of their kids and waited with Navy Kate, who Carlin calls their “tiebreaker.” If they do find out this time, she said, it’ll be “around the 20-week mark.”

The Bates Family Has Had a Big Year
Carlin is one of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates‘ 19 kids, and her siblings have kept the family busy in 2026. Her sister Tori welcomed her sixth baby, a son, on Feb. 28. Her brother Zach and his wife, Whitney, welcomed their sixth, a daughter, in April.
Now Carlin’s on No. 4.
“What makes me laugh is that this is somewhere in the late 40s for grandbabies for my parents,” she said, “and somehow, they’re still shocked and just as excited every single time.”
The news comes a few weeks after a scare for the family. Gil had a heart attack in late September, days after his son Warden’s vow renewal, and doctors put in two stents. In an Oct. 9 update, the family wrote that he’s “a trooper & is feeling great!”
Bringing Up Bates ran for 10 seasons on UPtv, and the network scrapped a planned 11th season in January 2022. The show’s own Instagram account hasn’t posted since that month, so these days the family shares its news on their own Instagram pages.
They recently moved, too. “We recently moved into our dream home and have so much more room now,” she said, “so it feels really special knowing we already have the space to fill it with another little blessing.”
