Pennsylvania high school state finalist Julia Tengowski has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Miami University (Ohio) beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Miami University! I would like to thank Coach Patrick and Coach Brittany for coaching me and helping me to become the swimmer I am today, my friends for always encouraging me and reminding me to have fun, my parents for always supporting me and helping me throughout my process, and to Coach Sam and Coach Adam for giving me this amazing opportunity. I am so thrilled for this next chapter in my life. Go Redhawks!!!
A senior at North Allegheny Sr. High School in Wexford, Tengowski has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Allegheny North Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in middle-distance freestyle.
Tengowski is coming off a 2025-26 short course season in which she dropped more than two seconds in the 500 free and a few tenths in both the 100 and 200 free. She set her current PBs in the 200 and 500 free at the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) AAA Championships in February, where she won silver in the 200 free (1:52.36) and bronze in the 500 free (4:55.47). She went on to place fifth in both events at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A State Championships at the beginning of March, swimming 1:52.48 in the 200 free and 4:57.62 in the 500 free. Her current PB of 53.53 in the 100 free came at a small in-season meet, the State College Quad Invite, in December.

100 Freestyle: 53.53 200 Freestyle: 1:52.36 500 Freestyle: 4:55.47A Division I Mid-Major program, the Miami women compete in the Mid-American Conference and finished fourth out of nine teams last season. Tengowski’s career best in the 500 free would have placed seventh at last season’s conference championships, while times of 50.54 and 1:50.57 were needed to earn a second swim in the 100 and 200 free. With two full seasons of training still ahead before she lines up at her first conference meet, she is slated to make an immediate impact.
Tengowski joins Lexi Goldstone, Lila Gregory, Ayla Madara, and Olivia Kamp in committing to the RedHawks’ class of 2031 so far.
