ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The final five residents of Waterview Heights, the Rochester nursing home that’s been the subject of multiple News10NBC investigations, are set to be discharged on Thursday to Lilac Manor Rehab and Nursing Center.
A source familiar with the matter says the remaining residents will be discharged by 2 p.m., and Waterview Heights will surrender its operating certificate to the New York State Department of Health.
The source also says Waterview Heights will send the Department of Health its final roster of discharged residents. As News10NBC has covered, the state has ordered Waterview Heights to shut down because inspectors found conditions were so bad that they put residents at risk.
The state’s original deadline to close the facility was Sept. 24, but that deadline has been extended multiple times because not all residents had found a new place to stay. In August, the facility had more than 160 residents who needed a new place.
Lilac Manor on North Goodman Street has taken in nearly a third of the residents from Waterview Heights. Only nine nursing homes in Monroe County agreed to accept Waterview residents, sparing many from being moved far away.
News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry has extensively investigated the conditions at Waterview Heights, winning a New York Emmy Award recently in the Health/Medical News category for her coverage. Here’s just some of her coverage:
