NEW YORK — Over $9 million is coming to the local region for alternative transportation projects in Geneseo, Newark, Attica, and Brighton.
The funding is part of more than $97 million awarded statewide to support sidewalk construction, pedestrian safety improvements and trail enhancements. The goal is to make it easier and safer for people to walk, bike or hike while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“New York State is committed to the goal of creating modern transportation systems that strengthen communities and help all users, not just motorists, get where they need to go safely and efficiently,” Governor Hochul said. “These investments in alternative modes of travel will help New Yorkers leave their cars at home and make it easier to walk or bike to their destinations, which will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our environment.”
The funding aims to support 35 separate projects that were proposed by counties, towns, cities, and villages throughout the state.
