ROCHESTER, N.Y. – October weather has returned to western New York. Temperatures were about 20 degrees cooler on Wednesday than the near record warmth we had the day before. And those seasonably cool temperatures will stick around through the rest of the week. Thursday will start off mostly cloudy once again, but we’ll see some sun making a return into the afternoon It’ll look pretty, but remain a little cool, with highs in the upper 50s.
Friday will see a return to rain and some wind. An area of low pressure passing just to our north will bring several rounds of rain. The first will arrive with a warm front and a balmy breeze. Temperatures may briefly surge into the 60s, but then fall back through the 50s by evening following a cold front. This front will also bring our next round of rain, followed by winds picking up and gusting 30-35mph. We’ll see some steady rain at times on Friday, with most areas seeing a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain by the time it exits Friday night.
Saturday will turn much chillier, with temperatures starting in the 30s and ending in the mid 40s. We’ll see a few hours of spotty rain showers in the morning, possibly mixing with some graupel and a few wet flakes, mainly in the higher elevations on the Finger Lakes early. Then, the sun returns. So the weather will improve by afternoon, but it’ll remain blustery and chilly. We’ll have to watch for a widespread frost Sunday morning, that will likely put an end to the growing season away from the lake.
