ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man previously arrested for multiple burglaries in 2019 in downtown Rochester is facing new charges.
William Arroyo, 58, is charged with burglary, criminal mischief, petit larceny, and grand larceny.
Downtown burglaries
Rochester Police say over the past several weeks, they have been investigating multiple burglaries and thefts from cafes and restaurants in downtown.
At around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to the Protein Pit Stop on West Main Street for a broken window after being flagged down by a driver. Police began investigating and reviewing surveillance footage.
At around 6:15 a.m., police found the suspect, Arroyo, on State Street and took him into custody. During the arrest, police say they recovered property stolen from Protein Pit.
Stolen car
On Oct. 6, police say they responded to East Avenue for the report of a stolen car. They say the victim left his car running while making a food delivery and Arroyo stole it.
Later that night, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the car, but Arroyo ran. Police say deputies didn’t find Arroyo initially, but say deputies found a cash register and other stolen things.
Arroyo was brought to the Monroe County Jail and is being held without bail.
According to police, Arroyo is on parole for burglary stemming from an arrest in 2019 for multiple burglaries downtown.
Investigation continues
Police say there are about ten locations downtown that have recently been burglarized with a similar M.O.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the burglaries and any connection to Arroyo.
