Veteran stunt coordinator Todd Bryant claims Ryan Reynolds ended his career.
The pair worked together on the 2022 Apple TV original Spirited. Bryant believes an on-set encounter led to his firing and then to him being kicked out of Hollywood.
“I know Ryan was behind it,” he said on an Oct. 5 episode of Flaawsome Talk With Kjersti Flaa.
The film co-starred Reynolds and Will Ferrell. Bryant claimed to have worked with the Elf star as a stunt coordinator and stunt double for 13 years.
“I have emails from someone who is very tight with Will … saying, ‘It was Ryan Reynolds that got you fired,’” he said. “I had a feeling because he was going out of his way … just to be an [expletive] to me.”
Bryant thinks the tension started after Reynolds wanted to perform a trampoline stunt himself. As the stunt coordinator, he set it up and showed the actor how to do it, but Reynolds was unable to do it.
“I think that kind of set up a dislike maybe for me, maybe that I could do the flip and he couldn’t,” he explained.
The film implemented a COVID vaccine mandate, and Bryant brought an exemption letter. He was fired from the production the next day.
“I really believe that Ryan Reynolds didn’t like me, and he wanted me gone, and they used this — he used it as an excuse,” he claimed.
The interviewer, Kjersti Flaa, asked him if he thinks he was let go as “punishment” for Reynolds ‘ inability to do the stunt.
“He punished me all right,” Bryant replied. “He got me fired and, not only did I get fired, but my entire career was ruined. You know, when you get fired off of a show for ‘not obeying,’ Hollywood tends to put you on a blacklist. And that’s the last stunt job I ever did.”
